Dissident Drama Part Deux-- Karnataka Government in crisis again

It seems that the empty vessels in the BJP house are making noise again. Nearly 25 MLAs, led by excise minister MP Renukacharya (of the sex scandal fame) are tearing into the lotus demanding their pound of flesh.

The dissidents want tainted minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, newly inducted ministers V Somanna and Shobha Karandlaje to be dropped. Renukacharya and party are said to be holed up in a resort some 28 kilometers from Chennai.

Why Chennai? Why not Bangalore?  That's to keep all the dissidents in one place. The protocol to be followed? Switch off all the cellphones. Only Renukacharya's phone is to be kept on. Only he negotiates. This is the second major rebellion the BJP government is facing in its two and a half year tenure.

The Reddy brothers, who led previous rebellion against the government are ostensibly on the governments side this time. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's position has further weakened, according to one political journalist. Renukacharya, some say is seeking to consolidate his position in the party.

The whole dissident drama, could also be an attention diversion tactic. A red herring to take the electorate's attention away from two separate land scams in which Chief Minister B S  Yeddyurappa, his son and relatives and IT BT Minister Katta Subbramanya Naidu, his son (Corporator Katta Jagadish) and relatives are said to be involved.

  1. Though he may try and have his way, he is only making things worse for himself in the long run. As he moves further, his arch rival Janardhan Reddy would support Yeddyurappa to ensure that Renukacharya is marginalized.

He did this the last time as well but compromised when he got a ministerial berth. I am sure that the same thing would happen this time as well as he would be ambitious to get a party ticket or win another elections.
